Best in Show Rosé Mixed Case
By Sara d’Amato
Just in time for warmer weather, the WineAlign team has produced its first ever rosé case offering. We are pleased to present an assemblage that has been carefully selected from among a vast number of rosés that have recently come into market and are ready for enjoyment in an array of settings. Al fresco meals, celebratory events (think fizz), poolside apéros, gastronomic explorations — we have a rosé for any occasion. While many of these wines are best enjoyed while youthful and exuberant, others can be held onto for a little longer. We’re sure you’ll find these wines to be some of the most versatile you’ll drink all summer (or winter, as we try to shift the paradigm).
This case has been a long time coming, largely due the challenges of securing rosés amidst the buying frenzy that happens upon their release in the spring. There is no other colour of wine that is as seasonally constrained as rosé. Although we offer this case now due to rosés brief availability, we encourage you to think of this style of wine as perennial and to appreciate rosé’s versatility with food and various occasions throughout the year.
We’re also calling this case Best in Show, as the wines for the team tasting were assembled as a result of Toronto’s first ever Rosé Symposium that took place at Verity in Toronto this April. I was fortunate to have been a part of its organization along with my colleague, Chantal Fry, a professional figure skater, rosé importer and part-time Marseillaise. The event included discussion panels entitled Impact on Climate Change, Evolving Rosé Style, The Colour Debate, and Locally Grown VQA Rosé. New rosés on the market, both local and international, were made available for tasting by consumers and trade. We hope to offer this experience as an annual event so stay tuned!
In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of handpicked rosés that will assuredly refresh and spark curiosity. Six wines were chosen from a tasting of almost 50, and you’ll receive two bottles of each. There were many near-picks, but in assembling this case, we wanted to showcase a variety of styles and regions. Reviews of all rosés tasted can be referenced here and if you are looking to dig deeper into the world of rosé, have a listen to the John Szabo and Sara d’Amato’s Wine Thieves podcast episode here.
