Discover Canada’s Cabernet

A Winemaker Webinar – Feb 13 at 5pm
Co-Hosted by Sara d’Amato and David Lawrason

Cabernet Franc is spiking in this country, rapidly becoming Canada’s Cabernet. It is particularly ascending in Niagara. In WineAlign’s 2020 Guide to Canada’s Best Wines, nine of the top ten scoring cab francs were from Niagara, and three of those were by winemakers working within the Andrew Peller group, including the top scoring Thirty Bench 2017 Small Lot Cabernet Franc which achieved an aggregate 94 point rating from the five National Wine Awards judges. (Read the Category Overview by Janet Dorozynski)

Cab Franc is vital in the blends of Bordeaux and it flies solo in the best appellations of France’s Loire Valley. It is gaining notice around the world, but Niagara, where it has long been the number one red variety by acreage, is emerging as a special, perhaps even charmed, locale. So, what is driving its newfound success here?

All will be revealed during this Zoom webinar with three winemakers who have been instrumental in changing the dial for cab franc: Emma Garner of Thirty Bench, Katie Dickieson of Peller Estates and Craig McDonald of Trius, who also oversees Emma and Katie, as well as winemakers from select B.C. wineries, and will bring Okanagan cab franc into the discussion.

Date: Saturday, February 13th
Time: 5pm – 6pm EST
