The Great Canadian Wine Exchange – Discover the Best of Prince Edward County
At 44 degrees latitude jutting from the north shore into Lake Ontario west of Kingston, Prince Edward County – a Loyalist enclave of Canada’s early history – is an exposed ancient seabed of limestone unlike any other in North America. Colder winters make grape growing challenging and reduce yields, but amp up flavour concentration. These never-say-die winemakers focus on electric sparkling wine, tensile chardonnay and nervy pinot noir, considered the “County’s” core varieties and styles. The PEC Discovery case is a gateway to the County’s reference points.
To help support the winery communities across Canada at this time, we have pulled together an exceptional case of the Best wines of The County for a special price of $406/case plus delivery Delivery fees are estimated at $25 in Ontario (shipping locations & fees). The case is expected to ship in early May 2020.
WineAlign partner John Szabo, MS handled the final curation and procurement of the County case and had this to say:
Wines On the Limestone Edge
In a short time, small but mighty Prince Edward County has captured the affection of wine critics and drinkers alike. Also appreciated for its pastoral calm and rural charm, sandy beaches and growing artist and culinary communities, PEC has become a favourite get-away destination at the same time.
But unlike the region, the wines buzz with energy, not languid tranquility. They are wines from the edge, literally, of a limestone ledge that floats in Lake Ontario. The genuinely cool climate – Ontario’s coolest – and all of that fractured stone combine to yield wines of delicacy and transparency, stripped down to an essence of grape and place without shoulder pads or botox.
We’ve curated an exclusive ‘greatest hits’ package from a dozen leading producers for you to explore. It’s an album featuring traditional method sparkling wines, and pinot noir and chardonnay, unlike any others in Canada. Fancy yourself an “old world” wine drinker? PEC is for you. If you already know the wines, no doubt you’ll want more. Take a tour of the County.
