A region near Valencia, Jumilla has reinvented itself with big, New World–style wines based on the monastrell (alias the mourvèdre grape) with its wild blueberry fruit and considerable tannin. The cabernet takes this blend to left field with rhubarb notes, and there is some peppery spice from shiraz. It’s full-bodied, warm and soft, then quite tannic on the finish. Youthfully awkward, but flavourful.
