...the 2000 Château Pipeau has now reached its peak, though it has plenty of years left. Dark-opaque ruby in colour (no doubt from good cellaring), it offers superlative aromas of mocha, cherry-infused currants and plums, pain grille, wild game, loamy earth, forest floor, and a hint of tobacco and spice. Complex, delivering excellent fruit, beautifully integrated tannins, balanced acidity, and a chewy, robust hint of subtle mocha and tobacco-themed currants on the finish. Superbly balanced, with ideal structure and depth. The vineyard is planted to 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Now-2019. (Julian Hitner, The Successful Collector, May 2012)
